Firstly we recommend you complete the Subject Choice Planning sheet available here. This works best if you right click and open in a new tab. You should discuss this with your parents and teachers.
At Senior level the subjects you choose can have implications for your future pathways.
Where can you get help?
Whatever your decision, please remember that employers are often looking for people with skills that reflect that you are a hard worker, you are reliable, adaptable, use initiative and have good communication skills. These skills can be demonstrated in any subject area. You can read more about these “employability skills” in research from Victoria University HERE
If there is only one type of a subject, it will be called 101.
If there is more than one type, it will either be split into 101 and 102.
Please read specific subject descriptions for details on this.
This will not apply to many of you. However, some students have taken Level 1 subjects in Year 10. This is only possible with the agreement of the Head of Department and your Dean.
Trades Academies deliver a range of programmes for senior secondary school students (Years 11-13). They are designed for students who are enrolled in secondary school and provide a transition between school and tertiary education.
Trades Academy options on offer in 2025 (based on 2024 offerings and subject to confirmation from the Provider):
Course | Level/Credits | Location | Provider | Model |

If you do not have a clear idea about where you want your studies to lead you, then consider a general course such as the compulsory group above and one each from:
You should ‘play to your strengths’ and follow your interests where possible.
You can also speak to your form teacher, your Dean or visit the Careers Dept (upstairs in the library).
Entry to subjects at senior level is done in consultation with the HOD or Teacher in Charge, with your final course confirmed by your Dean. The important question in approving courses is whether you have a reasonable chance of achieving academic success. Some subjects do require prior learning. Note that your performance in the Year 10 exams will be taken into account and some of you will be asked to do extra study before you are ready for entry to Year 11. Some subjects may not be available if the numbers of students wishing to take them are not large enough.
