Frontier is an absolutely outstanding book in a world where politically correct attitudes often muddy facts. History is often written by those who have not the slightest intention of verifying facts in the field. Peter Maxwell, in an attempt to cut to the truth, has not only studied NZ history via documents and eye witness accounts- but has also donned pack and rifle and trekked to the most remote locations to gain a full and accurate appreciation of each battle. The truth is what it is, the action (of which there is plenty) is brutal.
