In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, Prince Hamlet of Denmark is tasked by the ghost of his recently deceased father, the former King, to avenge his murder by his uncle, Claudius, who has now become the King and married Hamlet's mother, Gertrude. Haunted by this revelation and struggling with grief and indecision, Hamlet feigns madness while plotting his revenge. The play follows Hamlet's journey of revenge, his encounters with Ophelia and her family, and the tragic consequences that ultimately befall him and the Danish royal family.
